Our Approach

Every session begins the same way — with listening. To what your body is holding, where it's guarding, what it's ready to release. Underneath chronic tension there's often a restlessness — a kind of rapid, quiet trembling that lives in the tissue. The residue of a life lived fast. The body still bracing, still chasing, even on the table.

The work starts there. Staying with it. Communicating through touch — you're safe now, you can stop running. And slowly, it responds. The trembling settles. The breath deepens. The muscles stop waiting for the next thing.

This is the belief everything here is built on: you cannot heal what you won't allow to move. If your body is guarding, it doesn't matter what technique is used — it will resist. So we don't fight it. We bring it to safety first. And once the body feels safe, it knows exactly what to do. It is brilliant like that. It just needs permission.

What Makes Us Different

Your time is actually yours.

We see a small number of clients each day. Intentionally.

We see a small number of clients each day. Intentionally.

Your session starts the moment you're on the table — not when you walked in the door. We don't rush the intake, we don't cut corners at the end. The time you booked is the time you receive.

We see a small number of clients each day. Intentionally.

We see a small number of clients each day. Intentionally.

We see a small number of clients each day. Intentionally.

No back-to-back-to-back. No assembly line. Maximum three sessions a day means you get a practitioner who is fully present, fully rested, and completely focused on you.

Every session is built around you.

Every session is built around you.

There's no standard routine we run through. We listen first — to what you say, to what your body says — and let that shape everything that follows.

60 min – $130 | 75 min - $150 | 90 min – $175
Senior/Veteran: 60 min – $115 | 75 min - $135 | 90 min – $150

Therapeutic bodywork

This is focused, intentional work — not a general full-body massage, but a deeper conversation with the areas that need the most attention. Every session begins the same way: grounding, connecting, listening. What does this body need today? From there, the right approach unfolds — drawing from deep tissue, myofascial release, acupressure, assisted stretching, and more. The techniques follow the body, not the other way around.

Breath is an essential part of this work. Each exhale is an opportunity — to soften, to release, to let something move that has been held for a long time. Whether that's physical tension, emotional weight, or simply the accumulation of a hard week, the breath is what allows the body to finally let it go.

Domi works slowly and deliberately, staying with each area until it genuinely shifts — never forcing, never rushing the process. JJ brings a broader, more dynamic touch, with the same deep attunement — reading the body in real time and letting that guide every move.

Two different styles. The same philosophy: your body leads, we follow.

Massage with Stretch

Where Therapeutic Bodywork invites you to fall inward, this session wakes you up.

Massage with Stretch is an active, participatory experience — combining targeted massage with assisted stretching and PNF techniques that require your engagement. We move together, communicate throughout, and work within your body's real range — never pushing past what feels right.

The result is something that's hard to describe until you feel it: joints that move more freely, muscles that feel longer, a body that feels lighter and more spacious.

This session is especially beneficial for:
— Athletes and physically active people looking to perform and recover better
— Anyone dealing with stiffness, limited mobility, or repetitive movement patterns
— Desk workers carrying tension from hours of sitting
— Older adults wanting to maintain freedom of movement and joint health
— Anyone who simply wants to feel more at ease in their body

60 min – $160 | 75 min - $160 | 90 min – $210 | 120 min - $275

Tune-up session

For clients who already know their body — and know what needs attention.

Because we already know your patterns, your history, and your trouble spots, we skip the assessment and get straight to work. These sessions are designed for returning clients who want consistent, targeted support between longer appointments — without always committing to a full session.

Ideal for neck and shoulder tension, lower back discomfort, forearm strain from desk work, or simply maintaining what we've built together.

Think of it as regular maintenance for a body you want to keep moving well.

30 min – $80 | 45 min - $100

*Available for returning clients only. Please note that since our practitioners travel to the studio, we occasionally need to consolidate our schedule. If your Tune-Up is the only appointment booked that day, we may reach out to suggest a small time adjustment. We deeply respect your time and will always give you advance notice and flexible options.

Couples Reset

Some of the best things in life are better shared.

This session brings two people into the same space, the same slowness, the same permission to let go. Each person receives their own massage — fully tailored, fully present — followed together by an immersive Sound Lounge experience where low frequencies move through the body like waves, dissolving whatever the day left behind.

No agenda, no rushing. Just two people dropping in, side by side, and coming back to themselves — and each other.

Perfect for couples, close friends, or anyone who wants to share something that goes a little deeper than dinner.

60 min – $250 | 80 min – $300

sound lounge experience

There's a moment that happens for most people — usually quietly, when they least expect it. A drop. The body stops holding and begins to melt into the table. The low frequencies move through you like waves, carrying the mind away from wherever it's been stuck, until all that's left is the music and the present moment.

This is the Sound Lounge — a fully clothed, deeply immersive experience where sound and vibration do the work. No touch required. The frequencies resonate through the body, gently balancing the nervous system, easing anxiety, and creating a stillness that's difficult to reach any other way.

Choose from a curated library of meditative frequencies — designed around themes like grief, transformation, and chakra balancing — or bring your own playlist. Anything with deep bass, low tones, and rich sound becomes something else entirely when you feel it moving through your whole body.

30 min – $40 | 45 min – $60 | 60 min – $80

Available as a standalone session or a beautiful way to open or close your massage.

*Booking by request only.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at moonwavesbodywork@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

We keep it simple. A short conversation about what you need, then time on the table with no fixed routine — the work adapts as we go. Many people feel noticeably lighter and more relaxed by the end. We recommend giving yourself a little buffer afterward rather than rushing straight back into your day.

Most massage follows a set routine start to finish. Our approach is different — we listen first, to what you say and what your body is telling us, and let that guide the session. The goal isn't just physical relief; it's helping your nervous system feel safe enough to actually let go, not just have tension pressed out of it.

Because it's the actual mechanism behind lasting change, not just a wellness buzzword. Trauma, chronic stress, and unprocessed emotion are stored biologically — in muscle tension, posture, a system stuck in high alert. So many of us spend most of our time in survival mode, running on a sympathetic nervous system response without even realizing it — feeling constantly in danger when there's no danger, rushing, chasing, always living a few steps ahead in tomorrow instead of actually being here. Very few of us are taught how much breath, grounding, and emotional release actually matter, or how to drop back into the body at all.

There's a growing body of science on exactly how this works, and I stay continually educated on it because it shapes everything about how sessions are run here. Learning to regulate your nervous system changes how you respond to stress, to your environment, to intense experiences — you start feeling calmer, more grounded, and more connected to your own body. My goal isn't just to help you feel good for an hour. It's to plant the seeds of that change, so it carries into your everyday life long after you leave the table.

Completely normal — and actually something we invite. Stress, emotion, and old tension aren't just psychological; they're stored biologically in the body. Without a space that feels safe enough to let that go, it tends to stay held, showing up as tension that never quite resolves no matter what you do. Tremors, shaking, or waves of movement during a session are your nervous system completing a cycle it's been holding onto, sometimes for years. It can feel strange, even like you're momentarily out of control of your own body, and it's common to unconsciously stop the process the moment you notice it happening. You don't have to. This space exists so you can let it complete, however unusual it feels.

Yes — many of our clients come to us specifically for this. Moon Waves is a no-judgment space. Sessions move at your pace, pressure is always adjustable, and you're always in control. If you have concerns before booking, reach out and we're happy to talk it through first.

Relax & Reset is slow and flowing, built purely for deep relaxation. Therapeutic Bodywork is more adaptive, blending massage and myofascial work based on what your body needs that day. Massage with Stretch is active and participatory, combining bodywork with assisted stretching. Tune-Up is a shorter, focused session for returning clients who already know their trouble spots. Couples Reset is a shared session for two.

The Sound Lounge is a vibroacoustic sound session — low-frequency vibration and sound that guide your nervous system into deep rest, with no hands-on touch required. It's available as a standalone session, or as an add-on to any bodywork appointment.

Yes. Our Relax & Reset sessions are especially well suited for this, and the studio has free parking and step-free access at the rear of the building.

Our Team

Domi

Domi's path into bodywork began with a gift — a single massage from a dear friend who saw how much stress she was carrying. She had never had one before. What she felt afterward wasn't just relaxation. It was a revelation. She knew in that moment she wanted to create that experience for others.

In school, she fell in love with the mechanics of the body — posture, movement, range of motion. She trained across a wide range of modalities: deep tissue, myofascial release, Swedish, Thai, assisted stretching, acupressure and more. The techniques fascinated her. But something about the way they were often applied didn't sit right — pushing against the muscles, forcing change. The body, she noticed, would brace and resist. There had to be another way.

It took her own unraveling to find it. When life brought loss after loss and she had nothing left to carry, her body simply stopped releasing — no matter who worked on it. What she needed wasn't stronger hands or a different technique. It was someone who understood that the body can't heal while it's bracing. She couldn't find that person. So she became her.

That experience transformed everything about how she works. She still draws from the full range of what she knows — but safety comes first. She reads the body, earns its trust, and lets that guide which technique belongs in this moment, with this person. The result is work that doesn't fight the body. It moves with it — and the body, finally feeling met, allows itself to change.

Juan Jose

Juan José came to massage therapy through one of life's most tender experiences — watching his grandmother navigate Alzheimer's disease. In moments when words couldn't reach her, touch could. He discovered early that his hands had a language of their own, and that this language could offer something nothing else could. That discovery became a calling.

Originally from Spain, he arrived at massage school already knowing things that take others years to learn. The intuition was there — born from years of simply being someone who reaches for touch when someone is hurting. His love language has always been physical presence, the instinct to help through contact when he sees someone in pain or moving with limitation.

School sharpened what was already innate. His externship at a chiropractic office deepened his understanding of how the body moves, compensates, and holds injury. And his time at StretchLab revealed something he hadn't expected — how profoundly people respond to assisted stretching and mobility work. Clients didn't just feel better. They felt free. He became known for it quickly, and it became a cornerstone of how he works.

Today his sessions draw from deep tissue, therapeutic massage, and advanced stretching techniques — always guided by what the body in front of him needs most. Warm, powerful, and deeply intuitive, he brings full presence to every session. Clients often leave feeling not just relieved, but genuinely cared for.

Ezra

Ezra's path into bodywork began with their own healing. They know firsthand what it means to need a space that feels safe — to need someone who meets you where you are before asking anything of you. That experience didn't just draw them to massage therapy. It shaped everything about how they practice.

Trained in the intensive 800-hour program at the National Holistic Institute, Ezra works across a wide range of modalities — combining techniques intuitively and adjusting in real time to how the body responds. There is no fixed routine, no predetermined plan. Each session is built from scratch, guided entirely by what the person on the table needs in that moment.

At the heart of their approach is a belief that regulation is the doorway to restoration. Before the body can release, it needs to feel safe. Before tension can shift, it needs to be met — not pushed, not rushed, not forced. Ezra creates that quality of presence naturally. Calm, warm, quietly precise — they bring a stillness to the room that makes it easy to stop bracing and simply receive.

Their work is deeply restorative. The kind of session where you drift inward, lose track of time, and surface feeling genuinely held. Not just physically lighter — but more settled in yourself.

For Ezra, this work is reciprocal. Helping others regulate helps them stay connected to their own sense of safety and groundedness. That mutuality is what makes their presence so authentic — they're not just offering care. They're living it, session by session, alongside the people they work with.

We're Hiring!

We're Growing — Join the Moon Waves Team

Moon Waves Bodywork is a boutique therapeutic studio in Walnut Creek built on a simple belief: the body can't heal while it's bracing. Everything we do — every session, every interaction — is designed to create safety first, and let the rest unfold from there.

We're looking for a massage therapist who gets that. Not just technically, but in their bones.

Who we're looking for:

Someone grounded and reliable. Someone who shows up fully — for their clients and for the practice. You know your worth even if you're still growing, and you bring calm, intentional energy to everything you do.

You're not looking for a place to just pick up hours. You want to build something. You're motivated, self-directed, and excited by the idea of being part of a practice that's expanding — into events, retreats, and a second location opening in Oakland this August.

Sacrocranial therapy or nervous system-focused modalities are a huge plus.

What Moon Waves offers:

A thoughtfully built practice with strong positioning, a loyal client base, and a philosophy that attracts the right people. A small, intentional team where your contribution actually matters. Room to grow as the business grows — including events and retreats on the horizon.

Competitive split, performance-based growth path, and a studio that feels like somewhere you actually want to be.

If this sounds like you:

We'd love to hear from you. Tell us a little about yourself, your approach to bodywork, and what you're looking for.
